Bro. Stuart Scott Espy Speech

Two years ago, Mu Zeta Chapter 1984 initiate Bro. Stuart Scott graced the stage at the ESPN Espy Awards and received the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance.  The Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research gives this award each year to an individual fighting disease, disability, or cancer, and there have been several other recipients including Coach Kay Yow, Eric LeGrand, and Craig Sager.  Bro. Scott had a lengthy battle against cancer and served as an inspiration to family members, friends, sports fans, and others around the world fighting similar battles.  In his speech, he said, “When you die that does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live and in the manner in which you live.”  Bro. Scott refused to let his appendix cancer diagnoses in 2007 slow him down or stop him from doing what he loved, working for ESPN as a sports broadcaster.  He remained extremely charismatic, never changed his unique style, and garnered a unique perspective on life throughout his journey.  About six months after what some call “his finest television moment” at the ESPY Awards, Bro. Scott moved on to the Omega Chapter on January 4, 2015.
